Detailed Syllabus:Novels in the nineteenth- and early-twentieth century were particularly engaged with the events, circumstances, beliefs and attitudes of their time. This course encourages students to enjoy and understand them through the study of some novels from England and the USA. The focus is on understanding the role of the novel in representing and exploring social and cultural changes, the flexibility of the genre and how it has developed aesthetically, stylistically and structurally.
