The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held the first session of its third Curriculum Integration (CI) Program on Saturday, November 21, 2020 featuring Dr. Azfar Hussain, Associate Professor of Liberal Studies/Interdisciplinary Studies at Grand Valley State University, Michigan, and Vice-President of the Global Center for Advanced Studies (GCAS), and Honorary GCAS Professor of English, World Literature, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Addressing the chosen theme for the CI program for Fall 2020, Dr. Hussain delivered a captivating lecture titled “The Normal, The Abnormal, and the New Normal: How Do We Explain the World We Live in?” The speaker drew on Foucault, Deleuze, Said among others to demonstrate how the categories are all interconnected. Rich in references ranging from Science to poems of Pablo Neruda, the talk foregrounded the dynamics between what the speaker called the “micrologics” and “macrologics” that are crucial to the operation of these historically determined structures and categories. The lecture sparked off a lively Q/A session with participants from ULAB as well as other local and international universities.
