Prof. Md. Abdul Mottalib, PhD

Overview

With more than 38 years of experience in academia, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mottalib is the Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Dean of School of Science and Engineering at ULAB. Before joining ULAB, he has taught at several other universities including his alma mater Dhaka University, where he was the founder member and the Head of the Department of Computer Science from 1995 to 1998. Later, Prof. Mottalib founded the Dept of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) (Earlier CIT), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dhaka and led the department as Head from 1998 to 2017. Next, in August 2017, he joined BRAC University as Professor and Chairperson of the CSE department where he worked till September 2019. Besides, Prof. Mottalib is also an eminent research scholar of the country who accomplished the first-ever exploration of Computerized Bangla Linguistic Processing in 1984 while pursuing his second Masters at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. Later, he obtained a Doctoral Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India in 1993. He has published numerous scholarly articles in well-reputed conferences and journals. He has also published several text books for higher secondary and tertiary levels concerning different spheres of computing in both English and Bengali.
