Dr. Mahmood Hossain is a Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Studies and Sustainability, and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). With extensive experience in forest ecology and environmental research, his work focuses on the complex dynamics of mangrove ecosystems, carbon stock assessment, nutrient cycling, and ecological monitoring to promote sustainable forest management. His research has contributed to developing allometric biomass models for carbon estimation and examining forest litter decomposition's nutrient dynamics in natural and restored forest ecosystems. Additionally, his research extends to exploring the adaptive mechanisms of mangrove species in response to climate-induced stressors and anthropogenic pressures to enhance restoration strategies and ecosystem resilience in fragile coastal environments. Before joining ULAB, he served as the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University from the year 2021 to 2024.
