The Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) Department of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized the freshers’ orientation for Summer 2020 online for the first time with a view to coping up with ‘new normal’. The programme took place in Zoom, a video conferencing platform, on 11 July 2020.

The event began at 11 am with a welcome speech by the Honorable Head of MSJ Department Dr. Jude William Genilo. In his speech, he congratulated new students and talked about the challenges and prospects that they might come across in the digital era. While talking about adapting with new normal Dr. Jude mentioned, “You have chosen the right university in these circumstances; ULAB is fully ready with its online teaching and learning.”

Later, all the MSJ faculties and admin officials were asked to introduce themselves. After the faculty and admin introduction, a fun poll game through the zoom platform has been played by the freshers to introduce themselves.

The program also shed light on the various important topics like History of the department and necessity and process of portfolio creation.

During the last segment of the program, there were a few video screenings which included the notable works of the current students of the department, and also a video to appreciate the alumni who have excelled in their career. A short video was shown to the students to understand and cope with this new normal of their university life.

In the last segment, the students were linked to their advisors through zoom where the advisors carried out their advising session.
