Overview

Shutterbugs is a dynamic photography apprenticeship program based in Dhaka, designed to nurture aspiring photographers through hands-on training, expert-led workshops, real-world assignments, and collaborative community projects. Shutterbugs bridges the gap between passion and profession in visual storytelling.

Mission:

To cultivate creative and technically skilled photographers through experiential learning, industry exposure, and a supportive peer community.

Vision: 

To become Bangladesh’s leading photography program, fostering the next generation of photographers who will inspire, influence, and innovate through powerful visuals.

Program Structure

Shutterbugs runs on a semester-based cycle, covering:

  • Orientation & Onboarding
  • Fundamentals Training (Photography Basics, Camera Operations)
  • Intermediate Techniques (Lighting, Composition, Color Grading)
  • Thematic Photo Walks & Assignments
  • Advanced Modules (Portraits, Event, and Street Photography)
  • Exhibitions & Competitions
  • Final Showcase & Certification Ceremony

 

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Operate professional camera gear confidently.
  • Understand and apply composition, lighting, and color theory.
  • Capture compelling narratives through visual mediums.
  • Critically analyze photographs for improvement.
  • Build and present a diverse photographic portfolio.

  • Regular Photo Walks (urban, thematic, seasonal)
  • Hands-On Workshops with mentors and industry experts
  • Themed Assignments (e.g., Monochrome, Winter, Summer, Street Life)
  • Editing Sessions (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop basics)
  • Group Critique & Peer Review Sessions
  • Final Portfolio Submission

Performance is evaluated based on:

  • Attendance & Participation
  • Assignment Completion
  • Technical & Creative Growth
  • Final Portfolio Quality
  • Successful participants receive a Certificate of Completion, with top performers awarded Certificates of Excellence.

 

Membership & Eligibility

  • Eligibility: Open to all Ulab students, hobbyists, and aspiring photographers.
  • Enrollment: Each semester begins with an open call.
  • Membership Fee: Varies by semester; includes access to workshops, field trips, and program materials.
  • Commitment: Active participation throughout the 4-month cycle.

 

Editorial/Operational Policy

Shutterbugs upholds ethical practices in photography, including:

  • Respect for subjects and cultural sensitivity
  • Prohibition of plagiarism and excessive AI-generated content
  • Consent-based photography, especially for portraits
  • Non-commercial use of program materials unless permitted
  • Operational decisions are made collectively by the core team, with inputs from senior mentors and active members.
