Palliative Care awareness seminar held @ ULAB
The Student Affairs Office and the Nutrition and Wellness Club of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar in collaboration with Hospice Bangladesh, on the occasion of World Cancer Day 2018 to raise awareness about the prevailing situation for both adult and child Cancer incidents in Bangladesh and the available palliative care on February 26, 2018, at the ULAB auditorium.
The highlight of the day's event was the "Before I Die" board campaign where the students inscribed their last wishes to express solidarity alongside the people with these life-limiting illnesses.
The main purpose of this session was to inform the students about the importance of palliative care which aims to provide a quality lifestyle for people with Cancer in Bangladesh. The facilitators motivated the students to engage themselves in voluntary training programmes to provide palliative care to the people in need. Hospice Bangladesh shall provide training to interested student volunteers from ULAB in batches.
Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to ULAB Board of Trustees, presented the welcome address. The informative seminar was facilitated by Prof Zafor Momahhad Basud, Head of Oncology, Bangladesh Medical College Hospital, Associate Professor Zohora Jameela Khan, Pediatric Haemato Oncology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dr Megan Doherty, Project Lead-Children's Palliative Care Initiative Bangladesh, World Child Cancer, and Dr Shahinur Kabir, Palliative Care Specialist, Hospice Bangladesh.
Professor Akhter Ahmed, Registrar, ULAB, Arzoo Ismail, and Assistant Proctor & Senior Lecturer, ULAB School of Business and Adviser to ULAB Nutrition and Wellness Club, Rumana Anam, Assistant Professor ULAB School of Business and Advisor, Communications Office, along with others attended the event.
