Golam Kader Zilany, Senior Lecturer of Center for Language Studies (CLS), facilitated a two hours long workshop on ‘why care about assessment’ for the English language practitioners on November 28, 2019, at ULAB Campus A. Dr. Shaila Sultana, Advisor of CLS, Adjunct-Faculty, DEH, ULAB, Professor, Department of English Language, IML, DU and the faculty members of the CLS were present in the workshop. The overarching objective of the workshop was to review the purpose of assessment to foster learning within and beyond classroom boundaries. The session started with a discussion on challenges the higher education domain faces at present in Bangladesh. To overcome such challenges, the facilitator and participants mutually agreed to emphasize more on assessment practices to bring qualitative changes and to better fit learners’, markets’ and institution’s needs. Finally, the workshop ended through the discussion and possible applications of Bloom’s and Fink’s taxonomies to align pedagogy, assessment and most importantly learning.
