CLS Workshop on Action Research
Center for Language Studies (CLS), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a workshop on Action Research titled “Action Research: Principles and Practices” on December 14, 2019 from 10am-1 pm. The workshop was facilitated by Dr Arifa Rahman, former English Language Professor from the University of Dhaka. It was held at ULAB Campus-A, Dhanmondi. The workshop was based on classroom-centred research and possible actions that English language classroom practitioners may bring for ensuring better learning and teaching experiences for both teachers and learners. Ms.Iram Mehrin, Lecturer, CLS, ULAB inaugurated the program with a warm welcome note. Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor ULAB, Professor Shamsad Mortuza and Dr. Shaila Sultana Honorable Advisor to CLS, ULAB were present at the event.
A large audience attended the workshop comprising faculty members and students from ULAB, Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka, BELTA, Brac University and several other universities. The workshop started with an insightful discussion on Action Research by Dr Arifa Rahman followed by encouraging group activity sessions. Participants were divided into groups of three members and were instructed to imply the discussed concepts to solve their real life challenges in teaching-learning scenario. This group activity elicited a number of pragmatic techniques of dealing with disruptive students in the classroom as well as helping students understanding exam oriented instructions in a better way. An enlightening question-answer session was held to explore eminent thoughts from the audience. The workshop ended with reflections on the discussion by Professor Arifa Rahman, Advisor, BELTA and the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shaila Sultana, Honorable Advisor to CLS, ULAB.
The workshop successfully contributed to amplifying audiences’ professional and academic development through plausible evaluation and reflection. It also facilitated the participants to contribute to BELTA in terms of developing the English Language Teaching and Learning prospects in Bangladesh.
