CLS & British Council organized a workshop on Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)

Center for Language Studies (CLS), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and British Council Bangladesh  jointly organized a workshop on Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) on January 23, 2020, at Campus-A, ULAB auditorium.

The first session involved a detailed discussion on action research. It was facilitated by Mr. Imran Saifur, academic manager, British Council teaching centre, Bangladesh. Mr. Imran Saifur is an experienced CELTA, DELTA and TYLEC tutor and has UK qualification on teacher training and development.  Through reflection on teacher’s classroom practice, the facilitator highlighted the cycle of identifying problems, planning changes in response, implementing changes and gathering and analysing data to evaluate the implementation. The audience was encouraged to identify and resolve a specific problem which was recently encountered in classroom or teaching method. In the beginning of the second session, he also gave a demonstration of a CELTA lesson where the main focus was on teaching grammar.

The second session of the workshop was conducted by Mr. Ste Sharpe, deputy teaching centre manager, British Council Bangladesh. He holds a BA in Modern Languages, PGCE(UK), DELTA, MA ELT, is a CELTA and Trinity TYLEC tutor, supports teachers completing DELTA and is an experienced IELTS and Cambridge ESOL examiner. His session focused on the detailed information about timing, outline and fee of CELTA course in Bangladesh. He also debunked the common myths about this internationally recognized teacher training course and engaged audience in a Q&A about the basic information of upcoming CELTA course in Bangladesh. Finally, he announced ULAB as the venue for the upcoming CELTA course.

The workshop ended a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shaila Sultana, Honorable Advisor to CLS, ULAB. A large audience attended the workshop comprising faculty members and students from ULAB , BELTA, Stamford University Bangladesh and several other institutions.
