Stamford University became the Champion of Bangabandhu ULAB Fair Play Cup
The final match of the Bangabandhu ULAB Fair Play Cup 2020 was held between University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Stamford University Bangladesh on 20 February, 2020 at the ULAB Permanent Campus located at Mohammdpur. This year the tournament is named Bangabandhu ULAB Fair Play Cup in honor of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In the match Stamford University won the toss and decided bat first. They scored 162 by two wickets in 20 overs. In return ULAB scored 155 runs by 5 wickets from 20 overs. Md. Shamsuddin of Stamford University bags 3 wickets giving only 15 runs and become Man of the Match.
Mr. Kazi Nabil Ahmed, MP, Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation and Member of the ULAB Board of Trustees was present at the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. Prof. H M Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor, ULAB delivered vote of thanks. Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board and Member of ULAB Board of Trustees Kazi Inam Ahmed; Vice Chancellor of Stamford University Professor Mohammad Ali Naqi; Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Pro Vice-Chancellor, ULAB; Ms. Juditha Ohlmacher, Member, ULAB of ULAB Board of Trustees; Dr. Anwarul Iqbal Mitu, Advisor, Aspire Creat Excel ( ACE ) attended the match and handed out the awards. Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students of participating universities were also present at the ceremony.
ULAB organizes the Fair Play Cup tournament to establish good relations among private universities and to create an atmosphere of enjoyment and fairness in competition. The tournament has already gained huge popularity as it is the only cricket competition held for private universities.
Bangabandhu ULAB Fair Play Cup 2020, the Inter-Private University T20 Cricket Tournament organized and hosted by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, was inaugurated on 7 February at the ULAB Cricket Ground in Mohammadpur. Md. Mahbub Hossain, Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education, was present as Chief Guest in the opening ceremony
Besides host ULAB, the 12 private universities that participated this year are North South University (NSU), BRAC University (BRACU); Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), Daffodil International University (DIU), United International University (UIU), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) and Prime University (PU), Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), Stamford University Bangladesh (STUB), Southeast University (SU), and European University of Bangladesh (EUB).
A total of 20 T20 matches were held in the tournament. After 12 matches, the best eight teams fought it out in the Super 8 round to reach the semi-finals. This year, the champion team received BDT 50,000 and has earned the opportunity to participate in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final Tournament. The runner-up team received BDT 30,000.
The tournament has been sponsored and supported by Aspire Create Excel,Bashundhara tissue, Artisan, Meena Sweets and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
