ULAB is the top-ranked university in Bangladesh based on the World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking.  It is ranked 69 worldwide in the coveted Global Top 300 Innovative Universities 2024.  It ranked 100 in 2021, 96 in 2022, and 75 in 2023.  In ceremonies held on 7 June 2024 in Sorengo, Switzerland, WURI Project Leader Professor MOON Hwy-Chang announced that ULAB has placed 69th in the top 300 universities. The top five ranked universities are: (1) Minerva Schools at Keck Graduate Institute (USA); (2) Arizona State University (USA); (3) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA); (4) University of Pennsylvania (USA); and (5) Stanford University (USA).

ULAB entered top positions in various WURI categories.  It placed 2nd in Crisis Management, 5th in Student Mobility and Openness, and 19th in infrastructure/technology.

Among Bangladeshi universities, ULAB was the only university in WURI’s top 100.  The other Bangladeshi universities on the list were the International University of Business, Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) ranking 109, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) ranking 121, World University Bangladesh ranking 134, Daffodil International University (DIU) ranking 224, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) ranking 246, and Canadian University Bangladesh (CUB) ranking 255.

The WURI Ranking was developed by the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU).  The HLU Board of Trustees comprises university presidents from the Netherlands, China, Russia, Germany, South Korea, USA, and Finland.  The mission of HLU is innovation in teaching and research in higher education institutions.  Given its mission, HLU has formed an alternative ranking system called WURI. Instead of looking at statistics on research, internationalization and perception, it evaluates a university's real contribution to society.  It highlights creative and innovative approaches to university research and education.
