“The Only Ray of Hope is You”: ULAB’s MSJ Forum Unpacks the Aftermath of Revolution
The Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) hosted its Summer 2025 Curriculum Integration Forum on Saturday evening, exploring the theme “Revolution and Aftermath.” Held at ULAB’s A Campus, the forum provided a platform for students and faculty to critically examine how revolutions shape societies, ideas, and identities.
In a powerful keynote segment, Professor Sumon Rahman, Head of the MSJ Department, delivered a bold message: “If you compromise the truth, if you fail to recognise your revolution, the empire will strike back. So the only ray of hope is you.”
He stressed that while revolutions may dismantle physical systems, the deeper battle is internal: “We may be free physically, but the real struggle is freeing the mind.”
The forum opened with welcoming remarks by Syeda Sadia Mehjabin, Senior Lecturer and Chair of Curriculum Integration. Emphasizing the event's relevance, she said: “This forum is a space to reflect on how revolutions shape not just society but our inner selves. Through this theme, we encourage students to think deeply about change and identity.”
The keynote lecture was delivered by Mr. Aminul Islam, Senior Lecturer in MSJ, who discussed “The Concept of Thermidor in the French Revolution.”
Following the talks, an interactive Q&A session allowed students and faculty to engage directly with the speakers—posing questions, sharing reflections, and debating ideas. The evening concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Nibras Bin Sayed, Co-Chair of the forum, who expressed heartfelt thanks to the speakers, organizers, volunteers, and attendees for making the event intellectually vibrant and meaningful.
