Workshop on Ethics in Public Interest Journalism at ULAB
The Workshop on Ethics in Public Interest Journalism was held at ULAB campus on Friday, February 27, 2026. Facilitated by Netra News’ Editor-in-Chief Tasneem Khalil, the workshop focused on understanding ethical issues in public interest journalism.
At the very beginning of his session, Mr. Tasneem Khalil reminded the participants why the press is called the fourth estate and what responsibility that bring about to the journalists. He mentioned that as one of the key roles of the press is to ensure transparency and accountability of those in power, people in the press must practice it without any exception. In his engaging conversation with the participants, he elaborated how media houses practice and uphold ethical guidelines to prioritise truth and transparency in public interest journalism by citing several examples from Bangladesh and elsewhere.
ULAB organized the workshop in collaboration with Drik as part of the “Ctrl+Alt+Story: Research and Storytelling in Journalism” fellowship program. The current cohort has 21 participants, learning the art of longform storytelling through workshops and masterclasses facilitated by renowned journalists and storytellers. Afterwards, they will pursue investigative journalism projects of their preference with a grant provided by the initiative.
