ULAB Hosts “Rabindra–Nazrul Commemoration and Monsoon Celebration 1433”
The Department of Bangla Language and Literature at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized “Rabindra–Nazrul Commemoration and Monsoon Celebration 1433” on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at the Forum Hall of ULAB's Permanent Campus. The vibrant cultural event brought together faculty members, students, officials, staff, and culture enthusiasts in a celebration of the literary and artistic legacies of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam through music, recitation, dance, and discussion.
The event was graced by Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the enduring relevance of the literary works, humanistic philosophy, and timeless contributions of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, emphasizing their continued influence on contemporary society and culture.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Ahmed Shamim, Academic Program Coordinator at the Language Resource Center, Cornell University, USA. In his talk, titled “My Rabindranath and My Nazrul,” he reflected on how the two literary icons have shaped his personal life, intellectual journey, and understanding of literature and culture. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Shamim Reza, Adviser to the Department of Bangla Language and Literature. In his remarks, he noted that such initiatives go beyond commemorating two legendary poets; they also provide a meaningful platform for nurturing creativity, promoting cultural engagement, and fostering humanistic values among students.
One of the highlights of the event was a captivating performance by renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara, whose soulful rendition added a special dimension to the celebration. The program also featured poetry recitations, solo and group musical performances, dance, and a variety of monsoon-themed cultural presentations by ULAB students, making the occasion a memorable tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh.
