This course expands upon the underlying framework and concepts of Principles of Accounting in the context of how accounting fits into the overall business environment of contemporary society. It aims to provide useful information to investors and lenders in determining company’s cash flows, assets, liabilities as well as owner’s equity and changes in them. Topics to be covered include basic concepts of financial accounting, current and long-term assets and liabilities, accounting for partnership and joint stock companies, cash flow analysis, and financial statement analysis.

The course focuses on three areas of analysis: the individual, the group and the organization and considers these in terms of the ‘micro’ and ‘macro’ perspectives and their roots in behavioral and social sciences.

The unit starts with an analysis of management aspects of organization such as managerial hierarchy, managerial activities, organizational structure and organizational culture. Next, we analyze individual behavior in an organizational setting. This explores areas such as personality, individual differences, employee attitudes & motivation, group formation and group decision-making. The unit is completed by analyzing the ‘Macro’ or big-picture approach that addresses the whole organization as the primary area of analysis. Topics included are organizational leadership, conflict management and power influence in organization.

This course provides introduces advanced statistical analytical methods such as multiple regression, model diagnostics, model selection, one and two-way analysis of variance, mixed effects models, randomized block designs, and logistic regression. Students will learn how to apply statistics to the problems of business, economics, accounting and management. Statistical software package, such as SPSS/STATA will be used to assist the student in finding, understanding and interpreting the statistical results.
