M Shahidul Islam Khondaker is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of General Education, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and works as the Coordinator of the department and advisor of a student club. He is currently pursuing his PhD in History at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, where his doctoral research focuses on the ideological formation and political thought. His broader research interests include postcolonial state formation, South Asian political ideologies, decolonisation, memory and identity politics, and transnational historical relations in South and Southeast Asia. He is also interested in ancient history and world civilisation.
Khondaker holds multiple degrees in History, including a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Dhaka, and a second MA in Malaysian History from the University of Malaya. He has extensive experience in academic teaching, research, and educational leadership. At ULAB, he teaches a range of interdisciplinary courses and serves as departmental coordinator and advisor to the ULAB 1971 History Club.
In addition to his academic role, he has worked as Director of Project Development and Research Coordinator for social research organizations such as the Research and Development Collective (RDC). He has contributed to nationally and internationally funded projects on indigenous rights, electoral reform, and the documentation of genocide and memory related to Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
Khondaker is the author of two books: Suti Khan Dighi Genocide (2017) and Relations between Malaysia and Bangladesh: Inception, Consolidation and Extension (2024). His journal articles have been published in Jebat, Sejarah, Religación, Journal of the Malaysian Museum Association, and others. He has presented at international conferences across South and Southeast Asia. He is an active member of several academic societies, including the Bangladesh History Association and the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
