Shirin Akter is a promising academic, researcher, and educator in the field of Bangla Language and Literature in Bangladesh. Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Bangla Language and Literature at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), she has established herself through her intellectual dedication, research excellence, and commitment to innovative teaching practices. Before joining ULAB, she served as a Lecturer at Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST) and the University of Development Alternative (UODA), where she demonstrated remarkable academic leadership and organizational capability.
A PhD researcher at Jahangirnagar University, Shirin Akter is conducting research on the fiction of Jyotirindra Nandi, while also pursuing interdisciplinary interests in folklore, cultural studies, ecocriticism, sustainability, gender studies, and marginalized craft communities. Her academic journey reflects consistent excellence, securing 1st position in her B.A. (Honours) and 3rd position in her M.A. from Jahangirnagar University. She further expanded her scholarly expertise through a Diploma in Folklore from Folklore Academy, Kolkata.
Her research contributions have appeared in national and international journals, conference proceedings, and seminars across Bangladesh, India, Turkey, Laos, and the United States. Her works explore themes such as Bengali folklore, women’s representation, environmental consciousness, rural sustainability, and the cultural identity of artisan communities. Notably, her research on Khona’s maxims and the jewellery artisans of Bhakurta has gained international academic attention.
Alongside research, Shirin Akter actively supervises fieldwork, seminars, and student-centered academic initiatives, reflecting her belief in experiential and socially engaged learning. Through her dynamism, communication skills, and intellectual curiosity, she continues to contribute to the advancement of Bangla literature, folklore studies, and contemporary cultural discourse, aspiring to build a knowledge-based and socially conscious academic community.
