Dr Abu Saleh Mohammad Rafi is a critical applied linguist with a proven track record of publishing in top-tier journals and editing special issues. He has also been invited to contribute to collections edited by leading international academics, delivered keynote addresses in multiple countries, and has teaching experience in universities in both the global south and the global north. Prior to joining ULAB, Dr Rafi conducted doctoral research on translanguaging pedagogies in the context of Bangladesh higher education at James Cook University, Australia. His candidature committee gave him a "1 Exceptional top 5%" rating (on a scale from 1 to 6, with 1 being the best) for his research, and he was subsequently invited to teach pre-service teachers at the College of Arts, Society, and Education. Dr Rafi is affiliated with James Cook University's Language and Culture Research Centre. In Bangladesh, he taught at East West University, North South University, Daffodil International University, and Jahangirnagar University.
Dr Rafi authored articles in top international journals including the International Journal of Multilingualism; Language, Identity & Education; Teaching in Higher Education; Classroom Discourse, and Critical Inquiry in Language Studies. Furthermore, he published in the Bilingual-Multilingual Education Interest Section (B-MEIS) of the TESOL International Association and contributed invited chapters to several edited volumes published/forthcoming from Springer Nature, Routledge, De Gruyter, and Multilingual Matters. To date, he has delivered 11 invited talks at universities in Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and the Philippines. Currently, Dr Rafi is co-editing special issues for three top journals and a handbook on professional learning with leading international academics, as well as writing an invited critical review for an Oxford University Press journal.
